This is what I see pop at the corner of the screen when I searched
for poem prompts on google.
Trail Of Thoughts- 47
Nothing pisses me off more than ai trying to be creative or ‘aid’
in the creative process. When they said ai is the new future, it will be
amazing for everyone, one corner of the internet convinced me it will be used for
all the menial work we do in our daily lives- like dishwashing, laundry, cleaning,
and more humanly dangerous jobs like mining, oil rigging, diving in deep ocean
to fix submarines, solar installation etc, you get the point. Ai was brought to
us as a promise to a convenient technological development. At least that’s what
I was expecting.
Ai can now write you poems, stories, generate any image from
a simple descriptive input. All the creative stuff that makes humans, humans
can be done with a single click of prompt. And now, don’t come at me saying it
takes creativity to write the prompt. What? Seriously? Look at yourself, listen
to what you have just said. Are you seriously saying you giving a simple topic to
a machine to generate a rhymed prose is the same as writing the poem yourself? Seriously?
At this point, I don’t even want to argue about it. But sure, I’ll accept any
and all arguments for and against ai.
I am not completely against ai. Like I mentioned in the
first para, ai has the potential to save us from taking risky jobs and makes
our lives convenient so we can make art in our leisure- not use ai to make ‘art’
and we do laundry in the leisure. [im not saying ai will be doing laundry but it
can reduce our workload if used right].
And ai art. I can not bring myself to call it art. A friend
argued with me that any and everything is art, whether I accept it or not. And I
can’t accept that ai generative output is art. Art is human. Image generated by
putting in a prompt ‘make a flower garden with a girl looking out at the
rainbow and Saturn rings’ CAN NOT BE ART. It simply isn’t, I can’t accept it.
This post is going to be a rant.
Back when chatgpt was first released, I used to use it to
review my poems. Id put in my poem and ask it to review it, give me what story/message
my poem could tell. When my prompt so clearly stated to give me a review,
chatgpt would re-write my poem and gave a polished output. [I can’t even bring
myself to calling it a poem.] And I would read it. This happened a few times
and every single time, I liked the ai version more- because of the sophisticated
words it used, the spacing it added and the italics it some words. I used to get
down-spirited immediately, but I’m proud to say I have never posted the ai
version to my blog claiming it as mine. I just never used it. I would however use
the review to make sure my intentions were well articulated in rhymes and
proses. I love my poems just the way they are, time-taking, emotional and me.
But after a couple of years, I stopped it altogether. I started
asking people to review it and look forward to their interpretations to my
words. It brought me closer to them and their minds. And now I started putting
out my own interpretation and people loved it. They appreciate that I posted
what I was intending when I said ‘I stayed warm in the smoke of the burning letters
I wrote for you’. That’s a reference to my latest poem, ‘A sad man’s love’. I changed
and now I like my raw art better.
Just about a couple of years back, Instagram was a creative
outlet from reels being edit masterpieces that brought joy and tears out of us,
to simple crafts that anyone can do with a simple tutorial. People used to have
real hobbies and a personality.
But now, chances of you seeing an amazing edit and opening
up the comments to see everyone comment “prompt” is disappointingly high. I absolutely
hate it when a high quality action packed video takes a few minutes with a passport
size picture of yourself and an essay-type prompt. People have removed the concept
of delayed gratification from their minds.
Everything is now instantaneous and time saving. Well, you
are also saving your brain from being used. you must be happy for avoiding all
those wrinkles in your brain 😊because wrinkles=bad, use retinol, amirite?
that’s a topic for another time.
My friend and I debate a lot about this very topic.
Using AI in creative outlets is bad and it’s making us
dumber and dumber; we are lacking the very critical thinking that led to us
evolving into conscience intelligent species. If we lease it to ai and take the
output as our own, we will never solve a problem on our own.
I have to mention, I’m not saying all AI is bad. Like my
friend argues that ai is a thing, a thing cannot be good or bad. It’s how the person
uses it. Just like how internet is not a bad thing, it’s the way you use it
that matters.
My stance on ai is tight.
Ai is amazing, the feats of it are truly commendable. People
have worked really hard to bring ai in our lifetime and I’m really glad to see
it in my lifetime. Imagine telling a person from 1900s that we can generate any
image with just a few words of input and few seconds of waiting and voila there
you have the picture of Tralalero Tralala, a shark in shoes on the screen, for
free.
It’s an amazing technological development. But are we really
sure of how we use it? Are we sure we are using it in the best way possible? How
sure are you that you are not numbing your creativity, critical thinking and emotional
intelligence when you vent to a robot with no conscience and emotions? Is this
the road we are choosing to go in?
I have my answer, hope you have yours.
This is my opinion.
Thank you for reading till the end. Im hoping to see you
guys in my comments with your stance on ai and its using. I wonder if I forgot
any.
Yours lovingly,
Yourorangecloud.
PS: every time I come across the ‘prompt’ content, I simply
click not interested or block the user. Just because I hate the practice, doesn’t
mean I get to abuse the people using it. I have no right to be rude to others
and no right to project my unregulated emotions on to those who enjoy it. This post
is an attempt to start a conversation, understand my blog readers and hear
different perspectives on a controversial topic.
TDD: ten day diary
Feels like amusement park for the number of roller coaster life’s
getting me on.
Many more hurdles to come, for example tackling the
non-existence of another summer with no vacation. Many more to come. Doesn’t work.
Anyways, everyone, have a great may. Thank you so much for being
here, I appreciate it.
