something new

This is the story of how I got into reading again. It is a big deal for me.

After some vigorous studying for my level 2 exams, I had 40 days of rest till the results. I did nothing the whole time, by the way. I wanted to start hobbies. Guess I did something.

I bought a water colouring book. Yes you’ve heard me right. There is a thing called water colouring book. The book has the pigments, they give you two paint brushes. It’s so easy and amazing. I painted few. I got the unicorn themed book. The fun thing is you can actually tear the painted picture and use it as a bookmark which I will not be doing because they’re too precious for that.
Here are the pictures. It gets progressively better, I swear.

[1,2,3]

[4,5,6]

The 6th one shows the pigments on the side. The other 5, I tore them out after finishing it.
The 1st one was, hmm umm, an experiment of sorts. As you can see, there are fish at the bottom so obviously one can assume the scene is underwater so I painted dark blue all over the page. I then proceeded to paint the coral (or whatever the heck that is), the fishes and the hair. Idk how somehow there are ‘clouds’ at the top but the vision is there.

The 2nd one was imaginative. I think it was the first one I did. I was going for soft-core.

3rd one was amazing. I actually started putting in effort and it shows (whaaaat it’s possible?? whaaaa-)

4th one is my overall favourite. It is THE BEST ONE (yet)!!!!!!!! The humpback whales turned out amazing.

5th one is also great.  The flowers turned out really cute.

6th one was just, well you know, magical, or shall I say wicked? Ya I played with colours. I saw the previous 5 and thought to myself, why are all unicorns the same? And made this one glinda-elphaba themed. It came out so ugly, I decided to not do it again.

After the painting shenanigans, I had nothing much going on.

Family went on a vacation. It was amazing. It was also my first. We usually do pilgrimages. But this was different and thus amazing and awesome. We did get sick after coming home though. I’m talking fever, cold, body pains, the whole thing.

After this, i went back to my doomscrolling. Then started watching movies and series on Netflix, Disney, prime (i was desperate). It was nice taking a break after months of heavy studying. In this leisure, i forget the hard in my hard work for studies. I literally cried of pressure before all my 6 exams. Safe to say, i passed.

My friend from course said she wants to get into reading again and showed me her book “the diary of a young girl by Anne frank”. And honestly? I was thrilled. That got me into thinking “why shan’t I start?”. The next day i went to exhibition, i saw book stall and bought a couple of books. ‘The bell jar’ by Sylvia Plath and ‘murder in the family’ by Cara Hunter. My parents were not happy with the latter purchase. The bell jar is famously depressing writing. I thought I’d be able to overcome that and power through the story of a young woman who goes to New York on a work basis with her acquaintances where she has the disgusting distraction and rethinks her entire life plan. It was quite a read. I did not complete for the depressive tone got to me. So i read fictional true crime instead. It was amazing. I loved it! The storytelling was something. It’s written in mixed media almost like the screenplay to a series. Amazing work honestly.
After completing the book, i had come to notice emptiness in me that even doomscrolling couldn’t satisfy, it filled it but not satisfy it. So i bought another book. ‘The seven deaths of Evelyn hardcastle’ by Stuart turton. Im through a few chapters and safe to say it’s interesting enough to keep me going but sometimes it gets too much i take a break. Overall, nice journey.

Sooo, any new hobbies you are getting into these days? Feel free to comment and let me know.

Yours lovingly,
Rini.
